American Eagle AirlinesAmerican Eagle Airlines is a regional carrier for American Airlines and began operation in 1984 though it has become quite the force unto its own. American Eagle Airlines is an exciting addition to the already blossoming fleet of regional carriers on smaller planes to smaller airports who just want to get where they’re going without traveling hours to the nearest major airport. These low cost, smaller air services offer that.
American Eagle, being owned by a huge conglomerate like American, has done a fine job in making a presence for itself at the major airports. Some its hubs include Dallas-Fort Worth, Chicago-O'Hare, Miami, Los Angeles, New York LaGuardia, Boston-Logan, Lambert-Saint Louis International Airport, Raleigh-Durham International Airport, San Juan, and San Jose. So you can see they don’t really have too much problem with placement in big cities.
The problem is notoriety: people don’t always recognize smaller air providers, they’d rather fly in a big plane for the same reason they’d rather shop in an American Eagle Outfitters in an American Mall; consistency. They know what they’re getting in terms of service, product, price. Flying with a smaller carrier just like shopping in a local clothier, offers no guarantees but it also offers wild excitement for the possibilities. Having a parent company like American Airlines who can give you such a presence with financial backing doesn’t hurt either. With a fleet of 258 planes and presence in 140 cities, they do alright.
The real bonus about an airline like American Eagle is their discount fares. Low cost airline fares are available to all cities American Eagle services on their low cost carrier. American Eagle is able to offer these discounted air fares because of the niche they fill. Low overhead, smaller planes, lower fuel costs, smaller staff, shorter routes mean less expensive terminals and lower cost to the consumer
