Sun Country AirlinesSun Country Airlines is a low-cost airline that has headquarters in the Minneapolis-St. Paula area. Its main hub is the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport where it flies both scheduled and charter flight to destination within the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Although most of the routes of Suncountry Airlines arrives or departs from Minneapolis-St. Paul, it also offers charter service from some of the small Midwestern cities such as Fargo, North Dakota and La Crosse, Wisconsin that then fly to Las Vegas and Laughlin, Nevada. Future plans for Sun Country Air Lines includes a mini-hub at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport with flights to Mexico and other resort destinations.Sun Country Airlines suffered heavily in the 1990s as major airlines became more sophisticated in managing their seat inventories and the demand for tour charter flying decreased. In 1999, the management of Sun Country Air Lines made the transition from a charter carrier to a scheduled airline with new service from Minneapolis and Milwaukee flying to Los Angeles, Seattle, Detroit, Washington, DC and Phoenix. Senile Awards was instituted, a frequent flyer program that offered free flights as one of the benefits. After bankruptcy forced Sun Country Airlines to close for a time, it reemerged and regained profitability in 2004. In the same year, the Sun Country VIP Club was announced. The program does not offer flyers miles or points, but instead grants members the right to Sun Country Airline tickets for $39 plus $.10 per mile traveled on domestic flights, and $89 plus $.10 per mile for international flights. The Sun Country airline VIP tickets are available up to one day prior to travel. The cost of membership is $99 plus $12 per month individual or $17 per month for a family. In addition to the VIP-only fares, Sun Country Airlines also provides members with first class boarding, security, and check in Minneapolis and other cities. Suncountry airline VIP members also have access to a hotel reservation system of over 60,000 hotels throughout the world. .Like the larger carrier, Sun Country airlines reservations can be made online or over the telephone, with online being preferred by most people because it gives them an opportunity to check other things as well such as Sun Country airlines flight schedules and Disney vacation packages.
